Application Cases of Triple Convoluted Airbags in CNC Machining Centers

CNC machining centers have extremely high requirements for vibration control and stability. Slight vibrations may lead to reduced machining accuracy (such as poor surface roughness and increased tool wear). Traditional shock absorption solutions (such as rubber pads or steel springs) are difficult to take into account both high stiffness and dynamic vibration isolation requirements, while triple convoluted has become an ideal choice for vibration isolation of precision machine tools due to its unique structural design.

Vibration isolation of high-precision five-axis CNC machining centers

Problem:

• When machining aluminum alloy aviation parts, vibration lines appear on the surface (Ra value exceeds the standard).
• Vibration of the workshop floor (such as forklift operation nearby) is transmitted to the machine tool base.

Solution:

• Install 8 sets of airbags (load 1.5 tons/piece) on the machine tool base to replace the original steel springs.
• With air pressure sensor + PLC control system, the airbag pressure (±0.01MPa) is adjusted in real time.

Effect:

• The vibration transmission rate is reduced by 90% (the measured vibration acceleration is reduced from 0.5m/s² to 0.05m/s²).
• The surface roughness Ra value is increased from 1.6μm to 0.4μm.
